SOUNDWAVES
CONCEPT / STYLEFRAMES
Inspired by Peter Saville's cover art for Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures this treatment for a new line of silent washing machines was done quickly and with some degree of abandon. Completed in less than a day, the set of frames shown below still one of our favourites. Technically the effect was produced by interpolating turbulized splines in 3D and generating geometric sweeps along those paths in order to render with shading and reflections.
The concept opens on a single white line on a black screen. As the spot progresses sound waves (coinciding with sound design) form visible manifestations of various raucous elements on a journey home through the heart of a busy metropolis. The sound waves would vibrate like strings or the vector waveform readout of an oscilloscope. When a louder sound is heard, the frequency and amplitude of the waves comprising the image would react accordingly.
Styleframes designed by Chris Bahry. *Produced for The Ebeling Group / Nakd.
